Call for Journal Cover Design
The Journal of Colorism Studies (JOCS) is calling all artists and graphic designers to submit a design with a brief description for the front and back covers of a special thematic issue titled Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color. This special thematic issue will be published in print and online.
Call for Cover Design Submission Guidelines
The Review Board of JOCS will select the final cover. Please note that selection will be based on both the aesthetic quality of the cover design and the relativity to the issue’s theme Celebrating, Embracing and Empowering Girls and Women of Color.
Cover designs that are not selected for the upcoming issues may be used for future journals.
There is no limit to the number of cover designs submitted for consideration.
Cover Image Specifications and Template File
- A4 (8.25 x 11.25 inches).
- Front and back covers combined (17.54 x 11.25)
- Resolution 300 DPI
- Format: JPEG or PDF format.
- Consider adding about 1/4 inch to each edge of the image to allow for cropping and to account for the spine. (Take into consideration that space will be need for the title and JOCS logo for the issue).
Please make sure that the digital files are large enough to fit the journal cover.
You may wish to download and use our cover template (below) to help format the front and back covers. The template shows the exact layout of the cover, including the logo, trim lines, and spine width. You may wish to use this to help with your layout or to make sure that your images are sized correctly to fit the cover and spine.
Submission of Files
Please email your cover submission(s) along with a recent photograph and brief biography to email@example.com. The artist’s bio and photograph will be published in JOCS.
Please consider copyright issues when submitting your ideas. For any work that is under copyright, you must obtain written permission from the copyright holder to use the images. We cannot use images without written permission and will not accept purchased images. We do not ask for copyright of the images to be assigned to us, but we do ask for a nonexclusive license to use the image.
